Terms of Service
1. About these terms
Wrench Guild is a community for people who work on their own cars. These terms are the agreement between you and Wrench Guild ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Wrench Guild.
2. Who can use Wrench Guild
- You must be 13 or older. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission.
- While Wrench Guild is invite-only, you need an invite code to create an account.
- You can't use Wrench Guild if we've removed you before, or if the law where you live doesn't allow it.
3. Your account
- One account per person. Use your own details and keep your password private.
- You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us right away at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it.
- Handles can't impersonate Wrench Guild staff or anyone else. Names like "admin" or "moderator" are reserved.
4. Your posts and photos
- You own what you post. That includes questions, answers, guides, job posts, photos and video links.
- So we can run the site, you give us a worldwide, free, non-exclusive permission to store, show, copy, resize and share your posts on Wrench Guild and in things like the weekly digest and public fix pages. This permission ends when you delete a post, except where it has already been shared (for example, quoted in someone else's answer) or we must keep it for legal reasons.
- Only post things you have the right to share. Don't post other people's photos, manuals or videos without permission.
- When photo uploads arrive, photos will be resized and the location data hidden in phone photos removed. Videos are shared as YouTube links. We don't host video.
5. Community rules
Wrench Guild works because people help each other honestly. On Wrench Guild, don't:
- harass, threaten, bully or insult people, or attack anyone for who they are;
- post illegal content, sexual content, or content that exploits children;
- share someone's private information without permission;
- post spam, scams, or hidden ads (if you work for a company or get paid for a link, say so);
- give deliberately dangerous or misleading repair advice;
- impersonate staff, mechanics or anyone else;
- game the system: fake accounts, swapping thumbs up or stars with friends, or posting copied or low-effort answers for XP;
- buy, sell or trade accounts, ranks, badges or collectibles;
- try to break, overload or get around the security of the site.
6. Moderation
- Members can report posts, profiles and messages. Our staff review reports.
- We can remove posts, take back rewards earned by breaking the rules, suspend accounts or remove them, at our discretion. We'll try to tell you why.
- Staff can't read your private messages unless a message is reported, and every staff action is recorded.
- If you think we got it wrong, email [email protected] and a different staff member will look at it.
7. Repair advice and safety
Everything posted on Wrench Guild, including answers marked as validated fixes, guides and maintenance reminders, is general information shared by members. It is not professional advice and it isn't checked by a mechanic unless it says so.
- A "validated fix" means other members found an answer helpful. It does not mean it's correct for your car or safe.
- Torque specs, fluid amounts and intervals must match your car's manual. If we show a number, we show where it came from; still check it against your manual.
- Working on cars can cause serious injury, fire and damage. Use jack stands, wheel chocks, eye protection and the right tools, and work in a ventilated space.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, you take responsibility for the work you do, and Wrench Guild is not responsible for injury, damage or loss caused by following anything on the site.
8. XP, ranks, badges and collectibles
- XP, ranks, badges and collectibles are just for fun and recognition. They have no cash value and you don't own them as property.
- They can't be bought, sold or traded for money. We never sell random items.
- We may change how rewards work, including taking them back if they were earned by breaking the rules.
9. Copyright and takedowns
We respect copyright and respond to valid notices under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
If you think something on Wrench Guild uses your work without permission
Email [email protected] with:
- your name and contact details;
- a description of your work, and a link to where it appears on Wrench Guild;
- a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized by you, your agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you own the work or are allowed to act for the owner;
- your physical or electronic signature.
If your post was removed and you think it was a mistake
You can send a counter-notice to the same address. We'll explain what it needs to include. We remove the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe copyright.
10. Links, parts and sponsors
- Wrench Guild links to stores and other sites we don't control. We're not responsible for them.
- Some store links may earn us a small commission. They are always labeled, and they never change which answers rank or who earns rewards.
- Sponsored items are always labeled as paid placements.
11. The service itself
- Wrench Guild is new and still being built. Features will change, and things may break or be unavailable. We provide it "as is", without promises that it will always work or be error-free.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, Wrench Guild is not liable for indirect or unexpected losses, or for lost data, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you've paid us in the past twelve months (Wrench Guild is free right now, so that is nothing).
- Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
12. Leaving or being removed
- You can delete your account at any time by emailing [email protected]. A delete button in your account settings is coming.
- We can suspend or remove accounts that break these terms or put other members at risk.
- The parts of these terms about your content permission, safety, rewards and limits of liability still apply after an account ends.
13. Changes and contact
We'll update these terms as Wrench Guild grows. If a change is important, we'll tell you on the site or by email before it takes effect. Questions: [email protected].
